The purpose of Flag State Control is to control whether ships flying Lithuanian flag comply with the national and international requirements of maritime safety, security and prevention of pollution from ships, as well as the standards of shipboard living and working conditions. Being party of various international conventions, protocols and agreements, Lithuania has ratified, adopted or acceded to, the Republic of Lithuania undertook responsibility to implement and give full and complete effect to these instruments and to control how those provisions are implemented and complied with. The Maritime Safety Division of the Lithuanian Maritime Safety Administration participates in determining technical and organizational requirements and ensures control of implementation of these requirements. The activity of the Division in the field on shipping safety for seagoing ships is regulated by the Law of the Republic of Lithuania on Maritime Safety and for inland waters ships - by the Code of the Republic of Lithuania on Inland Waters Transport.
