Information for seafarers


Holders of marine documents with the expiry date before 1 July 2013 please be advised that the validity of these documents will be extended to 31 December 2016.

         Starting with 1 July 2013 the following documents in compliance with the requirements of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, as amended (including 2010 Manila amendments), will be issued:

  •       Able seafarer certificate (with a new mandatory provision included);
  •       Able motorman certificate;
  •       Electro-technical officer certificate (Lithuanian Maritime Safety Administration will issue a diploma of marine rank for electro-technical officer to those who wish to have it and who have completed training institution, where have acquired a specialty of marine electro-technical and who meet the requirements of the Minister of Transport and Communications);
  •       Electro-technical rating certificate;
  •       Ship's cook certificate

               A person seeking to be issued with an appropriate certificate will have to provide a document confirming that he/she have served in a relevant capacity on board a ship for a period of not less than 12 months within the last 60 months.

          Besides starting with 1 July 2013 existing documents will be replaced with the new ones, complying with the provisions of STCW Convention, as amended (including 2010 Manila amendments), in accordance with the order of the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania.
